Laurence Fleischauer memorial service Tuesday
Laurence "Larry" Fleischauer was born on Aug. 8, 1937, in St. Paul, to Gaylen and Marcella Ryan Fleischauer.
He died Feb. 17, 2009, in St. Luke's Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz.
Larry began his schooling in St. Paul and continued in sixth grade at Willow Hill School, in the town of Pleasant Valley, in St. Croix County. He graduated from River Falls High School in 1955.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1956 and served until 1960. He then attended River Falls State Teachers College for a year.
He moved from Wisconsin to Los Angeles, Calif., where he lived and worked all of his adult life. He spent most of his working years as a machinist in the aeronautics industry. When an injury forced him to retire from that work, he moved to Paso Robles, Calif., and purchased a refrigerated semi and made produce deliveries.
During his early retirement he drove a school bus for challenged students which he loved doing. His final years were lived in Kingman, Ariz., where he battled the effects of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and grandparents.
He is survived by his sister, June (Jerry) Gibson; two nieces: Karen (Jeff) Rodewald and Diane (Chad) Clark; three grandnephews; and one grandniece, all of River Falls.
He will be remembered at a memorial service at Ezekiel Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, with refreshments and conversation following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
Interment will be at a later date.
