Letter: It's time for government to get out of our way, he says
TO THE EDITOR: Our founding fathers defined the role of the federal government.
Their primary function was to provide national security and defend our borders. It seems they are failing miserably on both counts.
Nowhere in the Constitution does it give the government the authority to "redistribute wealth" by taking from those who have and giving to those who don't. This ideology was fostered by Karl Marx in 1848 in his book "Communist Manifesto."
Russia or the Soviet Union tried this system for about 100 years and guess what? It failed. It takes away the incentives of personal achievement and prosperity.
Yet, that is the road which the current government seems to be leading us. Even Pravda, the Moscow newspaper, reports that it's appalled that the United States would go in this direction.
But you won't hear that from the U.S. liberal press. We have had recessions since this country was founded. Most lasted 3-5 years until the 1930's great depression, when the government stepped in and tried to "fix" things, and it lasted for 12 years.
We are based on a Capitalist Economy. It has worked for over 200 years, but it seems our government wants to change all that. We are so overregulated that business can no longer prosper, which means fewer jobs.
The EPA has seen to it that $3.50 per gallon may be with us forever. Obamacare will bankrupt us. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
I think it is time for big government to get out of the way and let our system work.
