Letter: Program challenges girls to be best they can be, she says
TO THE EDITOR: Registration is now open for the Girls on the Run Program for girls in grades third through fifth after school at Prairie View Elementary.
Our community has an opportunity to lift our young girls to a higher level of self understanding through this program that challenges young girls to be the best they can be.
This is a program for girls to grow their inner strength through character building, running and interaction with awesome coaches who want to help build core values in girls through positive role modeling.
I encourage all parents of potential participants and future participants to go to the website and see all the positive aspects of this program. Go to www.girlsontherunbc.org. On-line registration is preferred.
Sessions will begin in March, culminating in May with the 5K event at Colvill Park in Red Wing. This 5K is open to the entire community to participate in. It is a chance for members of the community to show their financial support by sponsoring the event and it is a chance for the girls to participate alongside women who love to run.
Again, this is great role modeling for our girls to encourage them on a path of lifelong exercise, and feeling good about themselves and their community. As parents and community supporters, watch for more details about this program and related events.
