Letter: Public invited to peaceful demonstration at swearing-in ceremony
TO THE EDITOR: On Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 9 a.m., the new District Attorney, Sean Froelich, of Pierce County will be sworn into office at the Courthouse, Ellsworth.
We invite the public to participate in a peaceful demonstration with signs being displayed asking the new DA to re-open for re-examination the case brought against our son, Paul Krauss, over six years ago.
Paul was convicted based on allegations from his then-wife in June 2006. Following his trial, he was sentenced to 24 years in prison.
Paul maintains his innocence. Court documents, evidence and testimony contained in his case file indicate questionable methods were used to gain his conviction by the previous authorities who prosecuted and presided in his trial and appeals.
Jurors have advised us that they felt they were misled by how Paul's case was presented and by the lack of effective defense that was presented by his court-appointed attorney on his behalf.
We are asking that his case be reopened and examined by a fresh set of eyes without the possible motives of those who were instrumental in bringing the case against Paul. Please help us secure justice for Paul and his two teenage sons, as well as the rest of his family.
We will meet in the parking lot behind the courthouse at 8:45 a.m. that day to present ourselves as a group at the swearing in ceremony.
