Letter from Rep. Petryk: Gov. Walker proclaims September as Workforce Development Month
Governor Walker Proclaims September as Workforce Development Month
Governor Walker recently proclaimed September as Workforce Development Month while highlighting his plan to invest more than $100 million over two years to help create a more skilled workforce in Wisconsin. This recognition and funding will help those who are looking for work to get the training and skills that are in demand by Wisconsin employers. Workforce Development Month highlights the state’s continued efforts to get Wisconsin’s families working again.
The Legislature, along with the Governor and his Administration, has diligently worked to help turn not only Wisconsin’s economy around but our business climate as well. This includes getting Wisconsin’s unemployed back to work in fields that are in high demand. By having a properly trained and skilled workforce, we will be able to help those in need find and retain family sustaining employment.
The Legislature this session approved the Governor’s plan called Wisconsin Fast Forward. This initiative was passed with bi-partisan support in both the Assembly and the Senate. This plan includes a new state-funded $15 million grant program to address the issue of properly training our state’s new and current workforce. Also included in Wisconsin Fast Forward is a new Labor Market Information System that will provide up-to-date data that is intended to connect those searching for employment to jobs and the skills needed to be successful in that position.
Workforce Development Month also focuses on the state’s relationship with regional and local workforce and economic development partners. Collaborating will help the entire state to be successful in our goals to return the unemployed to the workforce. The state will work closely with the 11 regional Workforce Development Boards to hold events and focus on programs and services that are available. Always Remember September 11th
On Wednesday, September 11th, we remembered and honored those who innocently lost their lives twelve years ago as a result of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. On September 11th, 2001, nearly 3,000 men, women, children, firefighters, police officers, and others lost their lives that fateful day when terrorists hijacked four commercial airplanes and used them to recklessly target American landmarks such as the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and thankfully without success, the White House.
It is my hope that each of you were able to reflect this week on the tragedies that took place in our United States on September 11th. Celebrations and remembrance ceremonies were held across the country and many showed their support by taking part in the National Day of Service and Remembrance. We can best honor those who lost their lives by trying to help others while we show and proclaim to the world that those who tried to destroy our freedoms that day were not, and will never be, successful in their misguided and cowardly efforts.
