Levy, mill rate up in finalized Ellsworth School District budget

The 2010-11 budget was finalized by the Ellsworth School Board early this week.

A total levy of $8,014,111 was certified by the board after members adopted the budget during their special meeting Monday, according to Superintendent Barry Cain. This represents a 4.01 percent increase in the levy over last year's budget, Cain said Thursday. It also compares with the estimated levy of $7,843,995 for'10-'11 presented at the annual meeting this past August, when several factors affecting the new budget weren't yet known.

A mill rate of 9.55 (tax per $1,000 of valuation) is also included in the finalized version of the '10-'11 budget, Cain said. This compares with a mill rate of 8.87 projected at the annual meeting in August.
