Marko Septic will continue on
Marko Septic and Sewer Service in Ellsworth won’t be shutting down operations because new owners for the business have been found, after all.
A letter from past owners John and Jean Marko and family, which was published in the Dec. 18 Herald, had indicated the closing would coincide with the end of the year and the Markos would be retiring. But last week, new owners Matt and Erica Herink were introduced, assuming management effective with the new year.
The former owners had exhausted all avenues in trying to sell the service, it seemed apparent from the letter, so how did this last-minute development materialize?
“I read about it in the paper,” Herink said Tuesday.
The Roberts native has been a master operator and will now be the operator in charge at Marko Septic, according to information he and his wife shared. At his previous job, he serviced Pierce, St. Croix and Polk counties in Wisconsin as well as the east metro area since 2006. He enjoys and is dedicated to educating customers about their septic systems, and how to care for them to reduce problems and increase the life of the system.
Herink acknowledged it’s been a long-time goal of his to own such an enterprise.
“The timing worked out,” he said.
The couple said they’re committed to building a long-term relationship with all of the customers whom the Markos have taken such great care of over the past 35 years. The sellers estimated there are “hundreds” of them and have promised to help their successors during a transition period.
