Marquette edges Butler, heads to Sweet Sixteen once again
LEXINGTON, Ken. - The second meeting between Marquette and Butler looked a lot like the first, but the Bulldogs missed the back-breaking shot this time.
Vander Blue scored 19 of his 29 points in the second half as the Golden Eagles moved into the Sweet 16 Round of NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament for the third year in a row. They edged Butler 74-72 last night at Rupp Arena.
Marquette will meet the winner of today's game between Illinois and Miami of Florida this coming Thursday.
Rotnei Clarke led Butler with 24 points. Blue was 9-of-15 from the field with three long-range bombs. Trent Lockett and Derrick Wilson chipped in 13 apiece as the Eagles' record improved to 25-8.
The two teams are in line to have more games like this in future seasons. Butler is joining the new Big East which includes Marquette.
