MBC Golf Meet, Durand Invite and volleyball make up busy Thursday of prep sports
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

Thursday will be busy day and night of high school sports for Pierce County's  teams.

Going on now is the Middle Border Conference Golf Meet at Krooked Kreek Golf Cours in Osceola. Unlike other league meets this one's a full 18 holes. Prescott has done well at Krooked Kreek in recent meets and the Cardinals hope another good performance there will lift them into the upper half of the MBC standings for the very first time.

Next Wednesday is the WIAA Division 2 Luck/Unity Regional at Luck Golf Course starting at 9 a.m.  Nine team will take part in the meet with the top four advancing to sectionals the following week at Bristol Ridge Golf Course in Somerset. Ellsworth, Amery and St. Croix Falls will golf in the first grouping followed by Baldwin-Woodville, St. Croix Central and Luck/Unity and then Osceola, Prescott and Somerset. All four county teams will compete, including Ellsworth, Prescott, Spring Valley and Elmwood/Plum City, in the 16-school event.  Spring Valley ran at Mondovi on Tuesday and the girls team finished second out of eight while the boys took fifth. Here are the latest state cross country rankings:  The Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran boys team, ranked No. 15 in Division 3 and the Colfax girls' team, ranked No. 13 in Division 3, will take part in the meet. The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Prep volleyball matches take place tonight and if Ellsworth still wants a shot at the Middle Border Conference title they have to win at New Richmond. The Tigers are unbeaten so far in MBC play along with Osceola and Baldwin-Woodville.  The Blackhawks downed Ellsworth 3-1 Tuesday in Baldwin. EHS, 8-9 overall, won its fourth conference game in a row by taking game one vs. B-W 25-16 but the Hawks' grabbed the momentum  back with a 25-19 and then a 29-26 victory which led to the match win. Prescott's chances of repeating as MBC champs took a hit Tuesday in a 3-1 loss at home to the Chieftains. In the Dunn-St. Croix Conference Spring Valley survived its first rough patch of the season after breaking out to a 12-2 start. Valley was swept last week by Elk Mound and stared defeat in the face against rival Plum City Tuesday down 2-1 in their own Homecoming match. But the Cardinals soared again with a big game four effort to rout the Blue Devils 25-6 and followed it up with a 15-9 win in game five. SV, 13-3 overall, looks to go over .500 in league play tonight at Elmwood starting at 7 p.m. Both squads will also be in action Saturday as Spring Valley takes part in the Baldwin-Woodville Invite while Elmwood, 4-12 overall, is at the Pepin Quadrangular. Spring Valley will also look to keep pace with D-SC leaders Colfax and Mondovi as both are unbeaten in league play so far. However that won't last as the two preseason favorites in the D-SC square off tonight in Mondovi. If the Cardinals play the way they did in games four and five against PC they should be favored in their next three matches before winding up league play at Boyceville on Oct. 8, at home vs. Mondovi on Oct. 10 and at Colfax on Oct. 15.

Plum City, 7-10, has its Homecoming match tonight vs. St. Croix Central. Like Elmwood, Plum City will try to snap a three-match losing streak.
