Former Falcon men's basketball greats Roger Kuss and Rich Melzer have both been named to the WIAC All-Time Men's Basketball Team.

Kuss was a three-time All-American at UWRF in the early 1950s, while Melzer is the second-leading scorer in UWRF history and helped the team win a WIAC championship in 2003-04. Both are River Falls High School graduates.

Kuss played for the Falcons for three seasons (1950-51, 1951-52, 1952-53) and earned NAIA All-American first team honors in 1952 and 1953 and second team honors in 1951. After his senior season in 1953 he was named the Helms Athletic Foundation Player of the Year.

Kuss is fourth in career scoring at UWRF with 1,924 points, and is the university and WIAC all-time career scoring average leader with 27.5 points a game.

Kuss, who was inducted into the UWRF Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977, and was part of the inaugural class of the River Falls High School Wildcat Hall of Fame in 2011, was named to the All-State team in each of his three seasons of competition. In 1953 he averaged 38.9 points a game which is still a record in conference play. The 817 points Kuss scored in the 1953 season is second all-time in the WIAC.

Melzer played four seasons with the Falcons (2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2003-04). After his senior season he was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Player of the Year and he was named to the organization's first All-America team.

Melzer's 2,363 points career is second all-time in the WIAC and at UWRF. In the 2003 season he averaged 28.1 points a game, third all-time at UWRF and in the WIAC. His 22.9 career scoring average is third best at UWRF and fourth best in the WIAC.

Melzer's 935 career made free throws is a school and WIAC record, and he is third all-time in rebounding at UWRF with 821. He also holds the UWRF record for career blocked shots with 186.

The WIAC All-Time Men's Basketball Team is recognized in conjunction with the conference's upcoming Centennial Celebration. All-Time Teams are being selected in those men's and women's sports that have been classified as "championship" sports at some point during the conference's 100-year history.
