Menard fifth, Patrick 12th in Nationwide Series race

JOLIET, Ill. - Points leader Ricky Stenhouse Jr. took over the top spot in the standings by winning the Dollar General 300 Powered by Coca-Cola yesterday at the Chicagoloand Speedway.

Eau Claire's Paul Menard finished fifth for the best performance by a Wisconsin driver. Danica Patrick was 12th.

Stenhouse is the series' defending champion. He edged Kyle Busch by a little less than two and a half seconds, knocking Elliott Sadler into second place in the season standings.

Teenager Ryan Blaney makes it look easy, winning Saturday's American Ethanol 200 at Iowa Speedway in just his third start. Blaney is the 18 year old son of Sprint Cup driver Dave Blaney. He held off 20-year old Ty Dillon to take the checkered flag in Newton, Iowa. Though Dillon didn't win, he did take over the points lead. Necedah's Johnny Sauter was the only Wisconsin driver on the track and he finished fourth.

Jimmie Johnson starts on the pole for today's first race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup at Chicagoloand Speedway. Qualifying was held yesterday for the GEICO 400. Cambridge native Matt Kenseth takes off third today after finishing in a tie for seventh in the points standings. Paul Menard isn't a part of the Chase, but he starts 11th. Janesville's Travis Kvapil starts 38th and Danica Patrick 41st.
