Milwaukee man given $100,000 jail bond for accused attack on mayor
Anthony Peters will stay in the Milwaukee County Jail on $100,000 bond after making his first court appearance Thursday.
Peters is the 20-year-old Milwaukee man accused of beating Mayor Tom Barrett with a tire iron.
If convicted on the felony charges Peters could wind up spending 40 years behind bars.
He's accused of attacking Barrett when the mayor tried to interceded in an argument outside the Wisconsin State Fair last weekend.
Mayor Barrett is scheduled to meet with his doctors again today, possibly to decide on more surgeries to correct the injuries he suffered.
Peters says he was arguing with the grandmother of his child when Barrett approached. He told investigating officers he "freaked out" on Barrett and started hitting him.
