MINNESOTA NEWS ROUND-UP: Baby girl seriously injured in Rochester cash

ROCHESTER, Minn. --  Rochester police continue investigating Sunday's three-vehicle crash that seriously injured a baby girl.

The one-month-old was unresponsive when an officer arrived just moments after the wreck. A police spokesperson says paramedics were able to revive Annabella Elizondo but she soon became unresponsive again. A Mayo Clinic representative says no information is being released on the baby's medical condition.  Meanwhile, the Rochester woman who fell out a moving car near Chatfield on Saturday is now in fair condition. The State Patrol says the car was traveling about 55 mph when 23-year-old Saralyn Squillace fell out the front passenger window. State troopers say Squillace was one of three people in the vehicle, and all of them had been drinking.

A Minnesota lawmaker unsuccessfully lobbied his colleagues on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives for increased funding for the Small Business Administration.  Congressman Rick Nolan (DFL-Duluth) proposed an additional five million dollars, which would fund Small Business Development Centers like the ones at the University of Minnesota Duluth and Central Lakes College in Brainerd. The centers help budding entrepreneurs develop a business plans.  A second amendment Nolan proposed to the Financial Services Appropriations bill would have appropriated an additional five million dollars to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.  Both amendments were voted down, but Nolan says he will continue to fight for the small businesses that drive the economy, and for consumers who deserve safe products.

It was a short honeymoon for a newlywed couple in St. Cloud.  Police responded to a domestic assault call just before two o'clock this morning.  Thirty-seven-year-old Sterling Danford of Alaska was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 30-year-old woman whom he had just married the night before.  Authorities say Danford also punched his new mother-in-law as she was trying to stop the fight. The bride lost a tooth in the altercation.
