Minnesota News Roundup: Maple Grove church vandalized

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. -- Authorities are investigating after a Maple Grove church was vandalized. The vandals pelted the Pilgrims United Church of Christ with eggs and wrote "church of Soddom and Gomorrah" on the outside walls of the building. No arrests have been made and church members believe the suspects were opposed to the congregation's view on the same-sex marriage issue.

Delaying mowing of roadsides will be more important than normal this year as the cool, wet spring weather may have impacted bird nesting. The DNR's Carmelita Nelson says more than 40 bird species, including pheasants, use roadsides for nesting from April to August. She says by delaying mowing until August 1st, most nests can hatch successfully. Nelson says the peak hatch for pheasants is typically the third week in June, but because of this year's unusual spring, there will probably be a lot of birds still nesting in July.
