MINNESOTA SPORTS BRIEFS: Lynx sweep season series with Indiana
MINNEAPOLIS (Sports Network) - Maya Moore scored a season-high 35 points and added four steals to help the WNBA-best Minnesota Lynx secure the season sweep against the Indiana Fever by a score of 84-77.
Moore dropped 20 in the second half to help the Lynx cruise to their second consecutive win in the two teams' first meeting at the Target Center since last year's WNBA Finals. Seimone Augustus also added 17 points. Tamika Catchings contributed a double-double with 22 points and 10 boards for the Fever, who have lost four of their last five games. Shavonte Zellous scored 19 points in the defeat. The reigning champions never led, but tied the game at 72 with a little more then five minutes to go in the fourth. Minnesota then went on a 12-2 run before Zellous added one of her three three-pointers as time expired.
Jason Kipnis broke out of an 0-for-19 slump as he homered and drove in a pair to help the Cleveland Indians take the second of a three-game set from the Minnesota Twins, 7-2. Kipnis went 2-for-3 and scored twice for Cleveland, which won for the fourth time in its last five outings. Carlos Santana also went deep while Nick Swisher contributed a two-run double. Zach McAllister (7-7) pitched well behind solid run support, yielding just two runs on four hits over 7 1/3 innings. Liam Hendriks (0-2) was tagged for all seven runs, lasting just 4 1/3 innings before giving way to Anthony Swarzak, who tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Brian Dozier homered and drove in both Minnesota runs.
