MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP: Gophers top Michigan 5-3
MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's hockey team scored thee goals in the second period on their way to a 5-3 Big Ten win over Michigan Friday in front of 10,000 fans at Mariucci Arena.
The No. 2 ranked Golden Gophers built at 4-1 lead in the secon with goals from Hudson Fasching, Taylor Cammerata and Seth Ambroz which came on a power play. Also scoring for the U were Justin Kloos and Gabr Guetler. Winning goalie Adam Wilcox made 35 saves. Sam Warning had two assists for the Gophers. The series concludes this evening at 7 p.m.
The top two women’s hockey teams in the nation squared off at the LaBahn Arena in Madison last night. The second-ranked University of Wisconsin fell to top-ranked Minnesota in an epic 3-2 conference showdown. Dani Cameranesi scored the game-winning goal at the 9:02 mark of the third period. Also scoring for the U were Rachel Bona and Millica McMillen. Brittany Ammerman and Blayre Turnbull each tallied a goal for the Badgers, but it wasn’t enough. Wisconsin had several opportunities down the stretch to equalize, but fell short. Amanda Leveille had 21 saves for the U while Alex Rigsby made 30 for UW. Wisconsin and Minnesota wrap up the weekend series tonight at the Kohl Center in Madison.
