MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP: Timberwolves' Cunningham accused of sending threatening texts

MINNEAPOLIS  -- The Minnesota Timberwolves' Dante Cunningham is accused of sending threatening text messages to his girlfriend. Just last Friday the 26-year-old was charged with felony domestic assault and accused of choking the woman.

Medina Police say on Sunday morning the woman reported that she was receiving messages from Cunningham, which would be a violation of an order of protection filed against him. Police say they reviewed the messages and found them to be direct and at a "terroristic level". Cunningham turned himself in Sunday afternoon and turned over his cell phone and computers to investigators. The Timberwolves have released a statement saying the "team does not condone the behavior described in the accusations.

As a show of support for Twins GM Terry Ryan and others impacted by cancer, players from the Twins and A's are wearing SU2C patches. Team spokesman Kevin Smith says there will also be a tribute during the game. Smith says this is the first time Major League Baseball has allowed a team to do this in the regular season. "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" will be performed in the 7th inning by Hope Kids, an organization that provides activities for children battling cancer. Opening pitch set for 3:10. p.m.

Two lawmakers, one from Minnesota and one from North Dakota, have entered into a friendly wager on the outcome of the NCAA Frozen Four Semifinal faceoff between the University of Minnesota and the University of North Dakota on Thursday in Philadelphia. If North Dakota wins, Minnesota U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (DFL-Plymouth) will prepare her frozen dessert hotdish for North Dakota Republican Senator John Hoeven. If Minnesota wins, Hoeven will hand Klobuchar a box of chocolate-covered potato chips known as Chippers. Klobuchar says the Gophers are having another blockbuster season and she's looking forward to cheering them on as they make their 21st visit to the Frozen Four. The last meeting between the teams in January of 2013 and ended in a 4-4 tie.
