MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP; Twins begin road-trip this evening
ANAHEIM, Calf. - The Minnesota Twins begin a six-game road trip, kicking off a three-game series in Anaheim tonight against the Angels.
The Twins and Angels will play the trio of games before Minnesota heads to Texas for a three-game weekend series beginning on Friday. Kyle Gibson gets the ball for the Twins in the opener in Anaheim tomorrow. He is 6-5 with a 3.25 earned run average in 14 starts this year. The Angels will counter with left-hander C.J. Wilson, who is 7-and-6 with a 3.34 ERA. First pitch is set for 9:05 p.m.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are gearing up for the NBA Draft which starts Thursday in New York. The T'wolves currently hold the 13th pick in the first round and picks 40, 44 and 53 in round two. Cleveland has the top pick followed by Milwaukee and Philadelphia.
Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve is giving her team off the next day-and-a-half after having gone through a span where they played six games in ten days. Minnesota finished that stretch with a win at home against Indiana last night. Next up for the Lynx is a Friday game at Seattle.
The Minnesota Wild's regular season schedule is out. They open with a home-and-home series against the Colorado Avalanche, who took the Wild to seven games in the opening round of the playoffs. The teams will meet at Xcel Energy Center on October 9th before playing in Denver on October 11th. The season wraps up April 11th at St. Louis.
Several Minnesota Wild players and team celebrities will be taking part in a three-day tour of the Upper Midwest, beginning tomorrow. The "Wild Road Tour" begins tomorrow in six cities and continues through Thursday, where ultimately 18 communities will have visits. Current and former players Matt Cooke, Charlie Coyle, Jason Zucker, Erik Haula, Antti Laaksonen, Wes Walz, and Stephane Veilleux (STEFF-ahn VAY-yoo) will be part of the tour. The tour also includes broadcasters Anthony LaPanta, Mike Greenlay, Tom Reid, and Kevin Falness. Here is a schedule of the tour stops (subject to change):
