MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP: Twins keep Mauer out of line-up for duration of season
MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Twins are shutting down All-Star catcher Joe Mauer for the rest of the season.
Mauer has been out since suffering a concussion August 19th after taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask. GM Terry Ryan said there are no setbacks or red flags, but doctors advised the best thing was to have Mauer get healthy as soon as possible and be ready for next year. The Twins finish their third straight 90-loss season at home against the Tigers and Indians.
A lawsuit by former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Carl Eller and other NFL retirees has been ruled out of bounds by the U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. The suit claimed that retirees were wrongly barred from negotiations in a 2011 contract that included $900 million in increased benefits for retired players. Eller's group maintained the agreement contained fewer benefits for retired players than they could have obtained for themselves.
