MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP: Twins pitchers and catchers continue work-outs
FORT MEYERS, Fla. -- Minnesota Twins pitchers and catchers continue workouts today in Fort Myers, Florida, as spring training officially got underway yesterday for the battery mates.
Reliever Ryan Pressly says he will work hard to make the team again. He was 3-and-3 last year, appearing in 49 games out of the bullpen. The rest of the team is set to report by Friday with the first full squad workout on Saturday. The Twins open spring training play on February 28th against the Boston Red Sox.
The U.S. men's hockey team will face the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CST). The Czechs topped the Slovaks 5-3 in the qualification round today in the Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. The Czechs jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Slovakia scored on Marian Hossa's goal in the second period. That goal sparked a rally which brough Slovakia within a goal at 4-3 before the Czechs put the game away with Tomas Pleckanec's goal at the 19:21 mark of the third period. Roman Cervenka led the Czechs with two goals while Pleckanec had an assist. Winning goaltender Ondrej Pavelec made 32 saves. Team USA has ten players with Minnesota connections, including the team captain Zach Parise, who is from Minneapolis and plays for the Minnesota Wild.
