MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP: U men's hockey team sweeps Michigan
MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 2 ranked University of Minnesota men's hockey team completed the sweep of Michigan with a 4-1 win Saturday in front of 10,495 fans at Mariucci Arena.
The Wolverines scored first in the first period but the Golden Gophers tied the game in the first on Sam Warning's goal then dominated thereafter. Also scoring for the U were Connor Reilly, Nate Condon and Hudson Fasching, who also had an assist. Kyle Rau and Vinni Letteri both had two assists. Winning goalie Adam Wilcox made 28 saves. Minnesota leads the Big Ten with a 10-2-2 record, 21-4-5 overall.
In front of a new women’s college hockey attendance record at 13,575 fans No. 1 ranked Minnesota defeated the University of Wisconsin 4-0 Saturday evening in Madison. Getting goals for the Golden Gophers were Kelly Terry, Hannah Brandt, Brittany Brausen and Meghan Lorence. Terry also had an assist and Kate Schipper had two assists. Winning goalie Amanda Leveille made 24 saves while UW goalie Alex Rigsby made 23 saves. The Gophers are 24-1-1 in the WCHA and 30-1-1 overall. Wisconsin is 19-5-2 in the league and 23-5-2 overall. Four out of the five UW losses are to Minnesota.
