MINNESOTA SPORTS ROUND-UP: U women play in WNIT second round game vs. SMU
BROOKINGS, S.D. -- University of Minnesota senior guard Sari Noga of Parkers Prairie, Minn. hopes tonight isn't her final game as a Minnesota player. The sharpshooter scored a career-high 21 points in Sunday's win over Southern Methodist, sending Minnesota to a women's National Invitational Tournament date against South Dakota State tonight.
The Gophers playd much of that SMU game without star Rachel Banham, allowing Noga to step forward. Banham is expected to play in the game tonight despite feeling pain in her injured foot. The Gophers are 22-12, while the Jackrabbits are 24-9. The game tips off at 7 p.m. with the winning team advancing to the quarterfinals to play either Indiana or Northwestern.
The University of Minnesota Golden Gopher men's basketball team will play Florida State in the semifinals of the NIT next Tuesday at Madison Square Garden in New York. The top-seeded Seminoles beat Louisiana Tech 78-75 last night to advance. The top-seeded Gophers knocked off Southern Miss 81-73 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
