MINNEAPOLIS --  The Kansas City Royals used a seven-run second inning to take down the Twins 12-6 at Target Field yesterday.  Tommy Milone got rocked for six earned runs in less than two innings to fall to 6-and-4 for Minnesota, which has lost two of three to Kansas City.  Kennys Vargas and Oswaldo Arcia blasted two-run home runs and Joe Mauer hit a long ball in the loss.  The game was played in soggy conditions and had a couple of rain delays.

The Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals wrap up their four-game series tonight at Target Field.  Trevor May gets the start for Minnesota.  He is 0-and-1 with a 12.46 ERA in two games including one start.  KC will counter with left-hander Jason Vargas, who is 9-and-5 with a 3.27 ERA.  First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.

The Minnesota Vikings are back to work this week following Saturday's 30-28 home win over the Arizona Cardinals.  Rookie Teddy Bridgewater finished 16-of-20 for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner to Rodney Smith with 18 seconds to play  Matt Cassel was 12-of-16 for 153 yards and a score.  The Vikings are now 2-and-0 in the preseason.  They travel to Kansas City on Saturday.

There will be no practice today for the University of Minnesota football team  This is a scheduled day off for Jerry Kill's crew with a pair of workouts slated for tomorrow on campus.  The Golden Gophers open the season one week from Thursday night against Eastern Illinois at TCF Bank Stadium.

The Minnesota Lynx begin the 2014 WNBA playoffs on Thursday at home against the San Antonio Stars.  Minnesota finished second in the Western Conference at 25-and-9 including 3-and-1 against the Stars.  San Antonio went 16-and-18.  The first-round series will be a best-of-three set.

The Phoenix Mercury set another record in last night's 78-65 win over the Storm in the regular season finale in Seattle.  At 29-and-5, Phoenix broke the WNBA record for wins in a single season set twice by Los Angeles and once by Seattle.  The Mercury start the playoffs on Friday at home against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Jeff Gordon held off the field for a victory in the Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday.  Kevin Harvick finished second to Gordon, followed by Joey Logano, Paul Menard and Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Tony Stewart sat out his second straight race following the death of Kevin Ward Jr. in a sprint car tragedy when Ward was struck by Stewart's car.
