Minnesota star running back Adrian Peterson rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns as the Vikings edged the Steelers 34-27 at Wembley Stadium in London yesterday. Matt Cassel started in place of the injured Christian Ponder and threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns, both to Greg Jennings. Jennings ended with three grabs for 92 yards, while Jerome Simpson had seven catches for 124 yards for the Vikings, who improved to 1-and-3. The Steelers had a chance to tie it late, but Ben Roethlisberger fumbled at the Minnesota 11 yard line in the final seconds after he was sacked. Roethlisberger finished 36-of-51 for 383 yards with a TD and an interception for the Steelers, who are 0-and-4 for the first time since 1968. Le'Veon Bell rushed for 57 yards and two scores and Jerricho Cotchery had five grabs for 103 yards and a TD in defeat. The Vikings have a bye week coming up.

Minnesota sputtered offensively in Saturday's 23-7 loss to Iowa at TCF Bank Stadium. The Golden Gophers managed just 165 total yards while Philip Nelson threw for 135 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. The Gophers dropped to 4-and-1 overall and 0-and-1 in the Big Ten. Minnesota hits the road to play Michigan next week.

Minnesota's Maya Moore poured in a game-high 27 points as the Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury 72-65 to advance to the WNBA Finals. Seimone Augustus added 22 points for the Lynx, who swept the best-of-three series. Minnesota will host Atlanta in Game One of the WNBA Finals on Sunday. The Lynx swept the Dream in 2011 for the WNBA title, while Atlanta won last year's crown.

Cleveland's Nick Swisher hit a two-run homer to help the Indians defeat the Twins 5-1 and clinch the top A-L Wild Card position. Michael Bourn and Jason Kipnis each had two hits and scored a run for Cleveland, which will host the Rays or Rangers in the AL Wild Card game on Wednesday. Cleveland ends the regular season at 92-and-70. Ubaldo Jimenez struck out 13 in six-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball. Scott Diamond allowed two earned runs and four total over six innings for the loss. Eric Fryer knocked in the only run for Minnesota, which ends the season at 66-and-96.

 The Wild open up the 2013 season on Thursday at home against the Los Angeles Kings. Minnesota will then host Anaheim on Saturday before heading to Nashville on Tuesday. The Wild finished with 55 points last season and grabbed the eighth seed in the playoffs but lost in the opening round to Chicago. The Kings were fifth in the West last year with 59 points. The Wild will train in Duluth the next two days. Minnesota trimmed its training camp roster to 23 players with cuts over the weekend. The team sent Brett Bulmer, Jake Dowell and Jason Zucker to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL).

The No. 9 University of Minnesota volleyball team beat Purdue in straight sets yesterday at the U of M Sports Pavilion. The victory pushes the Golden Gopher record to 14-and-1 overall and 2-and-0 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers entered the match ranked 20th in the nation. Minnesota faces No. 12 Nebraska in Lincoln on Friday and at Iowa on Saturday.
