Minnesota State baseball team trounced in NCAA Division II finals
CARY, N.C. - Minnesota State University's baseball team gave up five runs in the second inning and could never recover in an 8-2 loss to the University of Tampa Saturday evening in the NCAA Division II National Championship game.
MSU-Mankato had nine hits in the ballgame but stranded seven. 10 of their batters were struck out. The Mavericks' Parker Sullivan and Stetson Olson both had three hits with Lucas Skjefte batting in a run.
Tampa had just eight hits in the game but five of them drove in six runs, including Zach Gawrych's double. Jake Schrder finished with two hits and Gawrych scored twice.
MSU finishes with a 42-8 record while Tampa was 46-12.
