MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Moorhead Police are investigating the death of an infant, but they believe it was simply a tragic accident.
Officers were sent to a home last night a five-month old little girl was forgotten in her carseat in the back seat of a vehicle. Lt. Tory Jacobson says Christiana Sandstrom's father discovered her just before 8:30 last night and called 911. Jacobson says the father, who was also caring for several other children under the age of seven, had dropped his wife off at work mid-afternoon and returned home, accidentally forgetting his daughter in the hot vehicle.
Another Republican has joined the race for the U.S. House in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District. Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah announced today she's running for the seat being vacated by Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Last week former state representative Tom Emmer officially jumped into the race. The race is also wide-open on the Democratic side after hotel magnate Jim Graves bowed out two days after Bachmann's announcement. So far only one Democrat has stepped into the breach: Circle Pines environmental activist Judy Adams announced Monday she'll seek the DFL endorsement in the 6th District.
Authorities are investigating what appears to be a fatal car fire in Bloomington this morning. Crews were able to put out the fire within about an hour, but authorities said at least one person trapped inside the vehicle died. The Bloomington Bomb Squad was also called in to assist because witnesses reported hearing an explosion before the fire started. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
