Morris Day coming to Treasure Island
Morris Day and The Time, described as "masters of cool," will present a concert of funk music at 8 p.m. Dec. 20 at Treasure Island Resort & Casino.
Created by Prince, the group is best known for a mix of danceable funk-rock music and the flamboyant personality of lead singer Morris Day. Day went to school with Prince and was in his first band, Grand Central.
The popularity of Morris Day and The Time grew when Day was cast in the feature film "Purple Rain" as antagonist to Prince. The group has had hits with songs including "Jungle Love," "The Bird," "777-9311" and "What Time Is It?" on the rhythm & blues charts.
"Morris Day and The Time's infectious brand of funk will have guests dancing and grooving all night," said Marcene Hardy, Treasure Island interim director of marketing.
The concert will be in Treasure Island's new 3,000-seat event center, where every seat is within 125 feet from the stage. Tickets are $20, $30 and $40. They can be purchased online at www.treasureislandcasino.com or at the box office. For information, call (800) 222-7077, ext. 2297.
