Murphy, Gaustad, Gilles top county runners at NRI
NEW RICHMOND - Pierce County had a trio of runners finish in the top 10 of Thursday's New Richmond Invitational.
Prescott's Amanda Murphy medaled for the first time as she finished eighth in the girls race' in 21:49. The girls ran on the same 5000-meter course as the boys in this meet.
Spring Valley's Emma Gaustad also placed in the top 10 as she finished in 10th in 22:07. PHS's Annika Carlson finished right behind her in 22:12.
The boys' race saw another strong effort by Elmwood/Plum City's Andrew Gilles and Noah Wells. Gilles placed 10th in 18:23 and Wells finished 12th in 18:27.
Ellsworth Kelsey Betthauser had the Panthers' best finish in the girls race in 19th.
Rice Lake won the girls team title and Eau Claire North won the boys. New Richmond was second in both races. The No. 7 ranked Spring Valley and Prescott's girls tied for sixth. EPC had the county's top finish in the boys' race in 10th out of 14 schools.
Ellsworth will run in the Rice Lake Invitational Tuesday while Spring Valley and EPC head to Prescott for the Cardinal's own invite which begins at 4:30 p.m.
