NHL Draft begins with Wild holding ninth pick
The NHL Entry Draft begins tonight with the Wild holding on to the ninth overall selection.
The Wild also have four picks among the first 69 selections after trading their fifth round selection for San Jose forward Brad Staubitz. There are a lot of Minnesota kids who are expected to be chosen high in the draft. Among them is reigning Minnesota Mister Hockey Nick Bjugstad, who helped Blaine to the Class Two-A state tournament and is an incoming freshman forward at the University of Minnesota. Center Brock Nelson of Warroad and defenseman Justin Faulk of South Saint Paul are also getting some interest.
Since the year 2000, there have been 18 Minnesotans picked in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft.
