No. 1 Ellsworth takes first loss of season, SV still unbeaten
Ellsworth HIgh School's baseball team was handed its first loss of the season Saturday 8-6 to St. Paul Highland Park at Brown Field in Hager City.
That leaves Spring Valley the only undefeated left in Pierce County as the Cardinals won a pair of games in Shell Lake Saturday.
EHS led Highland Park 5-0 after two innings but the Highlanders scored four runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth and six to take the lead.
Mike Koch had two hits to lead the Panthers and teammate Nick Taranto drove in three RBIs. Both teams combined for 24 hits (the Purple getting 13 of them) but Ellsworth had two errors to HP's none.
No. 1 ranked Ellsworth is still 12-1 on the season. Spring Valley improved to 9-0 after beating Shell Lake 10-7 and Prairie Farm 13-3. The Cardinals, looking to finally crack the Division 4 top ten poll this week, will be at Plum City Monday.
