ELMWOOD - The Elmwood/Plum City prep softball team, now ranked 10th in the state in Division 4, came from behind not once but twice in Tuesday's WIAA regional semifinal contest vs. Spring Valley and won in extra innings 7-6.


EPC pitcher McKayla Brunner went all nine innings to get the win and she knocked in the winning run with an RBI-single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. She tossed a five-hitter and struck out 10.

Both squads combined for 14 errors but it was SV's nine which were decisive, especially as EPC took advantage of them to plate two runs in the bottom of the seventh down 4-2 and two more in the their last at bats down 6-4.

Emily Hofacker led Spring Valley in hitting with two, including a double. Teammate Tana O'Keefe hit two-RBI double in the top of the ninth to put the Cardinals, 8-11 overall, ahead 6-4. Nevada Schlegel hit an RBI-triple. Brunner, Heidi Webb and Liz Fredrickson all had two hits for EPC and Shelby Kannel drove in two runs as did Brunner.

EPC, 15-4 overall, moves on to play No. 2 seeded Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran. The game is Thursday in Elmwood starting at 5 p.m. ECIL, 6-1 overall, crushed Chipppewa Falls McDonell 12-2 in six innings in their semifinal contest Tuesday in Eau Claire.
