Old Cowbelle: Peace, for 2010?
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

It seems like our world has been embroiled in wars forever. One ends and another begins. I can remember a few years after WWII when the world as we knew it seemed to be at peace. I don't remember how long that lasted.

But, there is nothing new under the sun, and reading about way back in Bible times, there were always conflicts and fighting and killing. Depressing.

I love that song that says "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me."

It reminds me that whatever is happening in the world out there, we can create our own little island of peace within the area we inhabit. How? First, by really caring about other people. It may not be possible to really like everyone we know, but we can look beneath the things we don't like, and see the reason for it; have compassion, pray for them. And maybe one day you will find that you like that person after all.

We can stop taking offense at carelessly spoken words, remembering that "it doesn't really matter" what other people think about you. If they cannot accept you the way you are, that's their problem. Don't worry about it, and don't turn yourself inside out trying to please. It isn't possible to please everyone and still stay true to your beliefs. We can respect the ideas and values of others that may differ from ours. We don't have to convince everyone to think the same way we do. The world would be a boring place if everyone thought the same identical thoughts and did the same identical things. Differences, it makes other people so very interesting.

Jan. 1, 2010, is the first day of the rest of my life! For some people, it is a time to make New Year's resolutions. Not me. By the second week, I would have broken them. So why bother? Then I would have to feel guilty about failing, so why set myself up for failure? (Simple soul.)

Instead of a resolution, I will pray to be a better person in the next year, or however much time the Lord allows me. I am starting out the New Year with no grudges in my heart toward anyone. And with forgiveness to those who have hurt me in the past. It makes for a peaceful life for me!

"Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!"

Our sincere sympathy for the family of Peter Neiderhauser. I like to think of Pete, spending Christmas in Heaven.....no pain, no cane, no limp. I can see him walking across the beautiful fields of Heaven, probably visiting with his Dad, Ed, maybe even my Husband, who was a good friend of Ed. Comforting to think about.

Happy birthday to: Joyce E., Sharon, and anyone else who was born in January!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
