A pair of diamond wins in Polk County for Panthers Friday

Ellsworth High School's baseball and softball teams were both winners in Polk County Friday.

The Panther baseball team bounced Amery at Amery 13-4 to stay undefeated in Middle Border Conference play while the softball team won its second game of the season by the football-like score of 21-16 at Osceola.

The Panthers trailed the Chieftains 16-14 before ripping off seven runs in the top of the seventh. Leading the way was Kayla Christopherson's three-run homer. For the game Christopherson had three hits, scored four runs and had five RBIs.

Meanwhile over in Amery, Ellsworth overcome a slow start by scoring five runs apiece in the fifth and seventh innings. The Panthers had eight hits and six walks from Warrior relief pitcher Brandon Anderson.

Winning pitcher Darren Georgakas had two hits, including a double, as did Taylor Johnon and Tyler Regnier, who too, hit a double.

The Panthers are 3-0 in the MBC and 3-1 overall, their only loss being to non-conference rival River Falls, a game they held the lead in up to the last inning. They host Somerset Tuesday in Hager City.
