Panthers catch fire and beat Amery 57-52

Trailing Amery 11-3 after the first quarter, Ellsworth's offense not only warmed up but caught fire in the second quarter and burned Amery for a 57-52 win in a Middle Border Conference girls basketball game Friday.

The Panthers sank five three-pointers in the second quarter. Ellsworth's Shannon Campbell made three of them, part of a game-high 24 points effort. Her teammate Kelly Kannel scored five her 12 points in the second quarter. The Panthers outscored Amery 19-4 and led 22-15 at halftime. Carlie Melstrom finished with nine points for the Panthers.

Alumni from Ellsworth High School girls basketball teams past were honored at halftime.
