PRESCOTT - Dennis Schutz's 28-yard field goal with :10 seconds left in the ballgame made Ellsworth High School's football team's regular season a perfect one Friday.

The kick broke a 14-14 tie against the Panthers'' Pierce County rival Prescott and gave EHS a regular season-ending 17-14 win.

Ellsworth finishes 9-0, 7-0 in the Middle Border Conference for the first time since 1999.

"Whether you win by one or win by 30, it's still a win," Ellsworth head coach Clair Austin said. "I'm very proud of our boys, our seniors, who make overcoming adversity a regular habit. That's great character trait for any championship team."

Schutz did all the scoring for Ellsworth. His first touchdown was 78-yards from scrimmage to put Ellsworth ahead 7-0 in the first quarter.

The Cardinals (6-3, 4-3) tied the score in the second on a 26-yard pass play from Alex Helmer to Payton Bartsch on a fourth down and six play. But on the very next drive Schutz scored on a 15-yard run set up by a big pass play, 41 yards from quarterback Emery Whalen to receiver Evan Klawitter.

Prescott used their passing game to drive the field in the third quarter and tied the game on a quarterback sneak from the one-yard line by Helmer. A botched punt by EHS set-up Prescott for the go-ahead field goal with 1:46 to go but it went wide-right. Ellsworth was then able to drive the length of the field on big pass plays from quarterback Emery Whalen to Schutz and Jarek Fischer to set up the game-winning field goal.
