MENOMONIE - Big pass plays by Colfax quarterback Jerrod Rudi handed Spring Valley its first loss of the season in its first "home" game of 2013 at UW-Stout's William's Stadium Friday evening.

With four seconds to go Rudi found receiver Devon Utpadel in the end zone from 20-plus yards out and the Vikings won the game 19-14.

Valley went ahead with :26 seconds to go on Tyler O'Keefe four-yard TD run. This was after a second half almost entirely devoid of scoring until the final half-minute.  Colfax led at halftime 13-7.

The Vikings, 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference, set-up their final TD with a long-gainer from Rudi to Ethan Kiekhafer after SV's kick-off.

Rudi was 8-for-13 passing for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Utpadel caught five passes for 170 yards and Kiekhafer had two catches for 33 yards. Colfax also had the ball for 166 yards led by Noah Pretasky's near 100-yard game.

The only time Colfax's passing game backfired was in the second quarter. The Cardinals Bryan Bednarek intercepted a Rudi pass and returned it 77 yards for a touchdown.

Valley will have to bounce back from this loss the hard way as they have to play undefeated and No. 4 ranked Mondovi in Mondovi next Friday.
