PC, Elmwood lose tourney games, regional semifinal match-ups set

The seasons for both the Plum City and Elmwood prep boys basketball teams both came to an end Tuesday evening in first round action of the WIAA Division 5 regional tournament.

Plum City, the No. 6 seed was beaten 59-35 by No. 3 seeded Cochrane-Fountain City at C-FC while No. 8 Elmwood lost 72-39 at No. 1 seed Gilmanton.

PC only trailed 28-20 at halftime against the Pirates, 16-7 overall, but were outscored 31-15 in the second half. Wyatt Schultz had 10 points for Plum City and teammate Alex Boyer scored nine points. C-FC's Dylan Geiger led all scorers with 14 points.

Elmwood never scored more than 10 points a quarter until the fourth at Gilmanton, 17-4 overall.  The Raiders trailed 34-11 at halftime. Levi Wolf was EHS's leading scorer with 14 points. The Panthers' Desmond Davis led all scorers with 22 points.

Plum City ends the season 6-14 overall and Elmwood 2-21.

Three Pierce County teams are still alive in their respective regional tournaments having been byed to Friday's semifinals. These match-ups are now set. Prescott will host Amery and Ellsworth will take on Maple Northwestern at Ellsworth in Division 3 and Spring Valley will be at home to face Eau Claire Regis in a Division 4 match-up. Tip-off for each game will be at 7:00 p.m.  No. 7 seeded Amery won its first round game 59-50 over Osceola, No. 5 Northwestern beat St. Croix Central 57-49 and No. 3 Regis crushed Boyceville 86-53.
