PC School Board announces staff layoffs
PLUM CITY--Staff reduction was one option the Plum City School Board faced in trying to curb a projected $300,000 deficit for the 2009-10 school year.
Last week, the board went that way, issuing six layoff notices--one final and five preliminary.
The final notice went to Nancy Wellington, who taught Spanish at 40 percent in the district. The preliminaries went to Jason Glampe, Middle School Social Studies, Wayne Radle, Elementary Teacher, Tanya Bechel, Elementary Teacher, Sara Enberg, at 50 percent Media Specialist, and Mike Bonn, a 50 percent reduction as an Elementary/Middle School Music Teacher.
Superintendent Mark Luebker said these layoffs were not performance based, but due to declining enrollment and financial constraints. He explained final notices for those five are due by Friday, May 15, so the preliminaries were issued to give those a chance to look for another job.
In regard to enrollment, Luebker said the district's biggest classes are in high school. They're looking at declining numbers for the next four years and then stabilization.
