New Richmond, Wis., man charged with kidnapping two women in Afton

Pepin has 'total mental breakdown'

ELMWOOD, Wis. -- Pepin's Molly McIntosh did everything she could to keep the Lakers in the game, but her defense let her down in the late innings Friday in an 8-2 loss against Elmwood.

Leading 2-0 after four innings, McIntosh very nearly retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth. Instead, miscues resulted in a four-run rally in back-to-back innings. The seven Pepin errors led to all eight runs.

"We had just a total mental breakdown, we completely came unglued," Pepin coach Matt Bellerive said. "I'm not going to make excuses, but it just turned into an avalanche."

McIntosh allowed four hits and struck out five in seven innings. Elmwood's Erica Wolf topped that by allowing just three hits and fanning 14.

The loss drops Pepin to 3-1 overall and in the Dunn-St. Croix. The Lakers play host today to a four-team tournament, with the opener against Altoona beginning at 2 p.m.
