Pepin man dies in farm accident
A 55-year-old Pepin County man died Friday when a farm tractor rolled over on him.
Daniel Black, County Road Z, Arkansaw, was pronounced dead at the scene by Pepin County Deputy Coroner Christy Rundquist.
The accident location was in a farm field just outside Pierce County. The accident was reported at 5:10 p.m. May 23.
Pierce County authorities were the first to get the 911 call because it was made from a phone in Pierce County. Ellsworth paramedics and a Lifeline III chopper from New Richmond were alerted, but those calls were cancelled after a deputy arrived on the scene.
Pierce County deputy sheriffs and Plum City fire and ambulance workers were among emergency workers responding to the scene.
According to the Pepin County Sheriff's Department, Black was operating an Allis Chalmers WD45 tractor equipped with a front-end loader. The loader was carrying a moderate amount of construction debris and other material across land with a moderate slope, according to a Sheriff's Department press release. The tractor overturned, trapping Black.
A wrecker was summoned from Ellsworth to help free the body.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Spring Valley. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church and also one hour prior to the funeral. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is handling arrangements.
