Peshtigo Army private killed in Afghanistan
The family of a Peshtigo man killed in Afghanistan will return home today.
Army Pvt. Steven Drees, 19, died over the weekend, after he was shot in the head last Wednesday when insurgents attacked his unit with a grenade launcher and small arms fire.
It happened in the Afghan province of Konar.
Drees' parents and twin brother flew to Germany Friday and relatives said he was taken off life-support the next day at a military hospital.
Drees joined the Army soon after he graduated from Peshtigo High School, where he played basketball.
He was sent to Afghanistan on his birthday last month.
Funeral services will be held at the high school. A date has not been set.
