Petrasko named new Elmwood Police Chief
Ellsworth Wisconsin 126 S. Chestnut St. 54011

ELMWOOD -- Samuel Petrasko was seeking something different after spending a year as a deputy for the Menominee County Sheriff's Department.

Thanks to an internet search, he found what he was looking for, as the Village of Elmwood was looking for a police chief.

Petrasko, who never heard of Elmwood before he applied, was hired and started late last month.

The 27-year-old grew up in Appleton. He said he became interested in law enforcement thanks to two uncles who were in the field and its versatility.

"It is not a desk job and each day is never the same," he said.

Petrasko graduated from UW-Whitewater with a degree in sociology and minored in criminal justice. After completion of the police academy at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Petrasko spent two years with the Menominee County (west of Green Bay) Tribal Police and one year as the sheriff's deputy before coming to Elmwood.

"I have had no complaints so far," he said about his time in Elmwood. "Everyone is friendly and close-knit. It's been good."

In his free time, Petrasko enjoys playing baseball (he'll play for the Menomonie Eagles next summer), driving motorcycle and sand volleyball.
