PIERCE COUNTY BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: Plum City loses close contest to Boyceville

PLUM CITY - Boyceville and Plum City's prep girls basketball teams battled to the buzzer of Saturday's Dunn-St. Croix Conference rescheduled game. The Bulldogs came out ahead 51-49.

A charging call plus a critical turnover helped the Bulldogs preserve their two-point advantage.

Plum City's Sarah Gilles had a game-high 17 points and teammate Cheyanne Catura scored 13 points but Boyceville's superior depth won out as they had eight players score three or more points and were not as fatigued at the end of the game.

In other prep basketball action from Saturday, Ellsworth's girls team fell behind 36-12 at halftime at Barron Saturday but played better in the second half despite a 58-40 loss to the Golden Bears. Kelsey Betthauser had 20 points to lead EHS. In boys' basketball, Elmwood concluded its regular season Saturday at Mondovi. The Raiders played even with the Buffaloes until the fourth quarter when the home team outscored them 17-8 on their way to a 61-42 win. Elmwood's Levi Wolf led all scorers with 23 points.
