PIERCE COUNTY BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: Spring Valley boys rip PC
Behind 19 points from Zac Webster and 11 points each from Sam Green and Jake Helmer, the Spring Valley High School boys' basketball team beat Plum City comfortably Thursday evening 61-39 in Plum City.
Nash Gilles led the Blue Devils in scoring again with 19 points but no one else was double figures for PC.
Plum City was competitive in the first half, trailing only 29-23 at halftime. But they were outscored 31-13 in the second half.
Valley won its third in a row to improve to 14-5 overall while PC lost its eighth in a row to drop to 6-12. SV is 10-5 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference while Plum City is 6-9.
Also in boys hoops' last evening from Pierce County, Elmwood dropped a 64-52 in a road loss to St. Croix Central. Tyler Freyholtz had a season best 18 points to lead the Raiders, 2-18 overall and 1-13 in the league, in scoring.
In girls basketball, Spring Valley fell too far behind Boyceville in the first half to catch-up and lost 55-45 at home. Emily Boisen had 20 points to lead the Cardinals, who drop to 5-11 overall and 3-10 in the D-SC. Elmwood was shutout in quarter one and four and lost brutally to No. 2 ranked Colfax 69-12. Jennifer Weix led EHS, 1-15 overall, 0-11 in the D-SC with five points.
