PIERCE COUNTY BASKETBALL ROUND-UP: SV wins non-conf. game over Eagles
Spring Valley High School's boys' basketball team won 62-44 over Alma/Pepin in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening in Pepin.
The Cardinals outscored the Eagles 31-18 in the second half to break open a close game from the first half. SV improves to 13-5 overall.
Also in boys' non-conference action Tuesday, Gilmanton used a 12-5 fourth quarter margin to beat Plum City 48-34 in Plum City. Nash Gilles scored 13 points to lead PC whose losing streak is now at seven game. The Blue Devils are 6-11 overall while Gilmanton improved to 14-3.
On the girls' side of the hardwood, Spring Valley was beaten up by the one-two punch of Kayla Pabst and Emma Landry for St. Croix Central and lost 60-43. Landry had 20 points and Pabst 17. SCC made six three-point shots to Valley's lone one. Spring Valley was also hurt by foul trouble. Emily Boisen scored 14 points and Becky Fesemaier finished with 12 points for the Cardinals, who drop to 5-10 overall and 3-9 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference.
Brandy Peterson had a season-high 14 points for Elmwood but it was not enough in the wake of the game-high 22 points put in by Glenwood City's Jen Kopcz in 61-39 win for the Hilltoppers. The Raiders remain winless in D-SC play at 0-9, 1-14 overall.
Ellsworth played a non-conference match-up vs. St. Paul CHOF Tuesday at home. The Panthers' Kelsey Betthauser was over 20 points in scoring again with 24 but she was only one of four players in the scoring column for EHS as the Panthers fell 52-32 and dropped to 1-15 overall.
