Pierce County prep teams take part in Holiday tournaments, games

Division 2 is where the action will be at for this year’s Bi-State Classic, one of many holiday tournaments and games Pierce County prep teams will be taking part in between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The Division 2 field in the 56-team Bi-State Classic is loaded with ranked teams, including No. 1 Two Rivers, No. 2 Ellsworth, No. 3 Luxemburg-Casco and No. 10 Mauston. The overall Bi-State winner could come from this quartet.

The Bi-State runs Friday and Saturday at the La Cross Center with morning sessions beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Two other Pierce County prep wrestling teams will be in action at the Northern Badger Tournament held at River Falls High School. No. 1 Spring Valley/Elmwood and Prescott will be competing in a tournament which will be also held Friday and Saturday. SVE will be one of the favourites in the meet along with No. 4 Amery, No. 6 Boyceville and No. 10 Clear Lake.

Both of Prescott High School’s basketball team will be in action once again in annual the South St. Paul Holiday Tournament. The PHS boys will be in a tournament field with Park High School of Cottage Grove, North Branch, Minn. and the host Packers. The field for the girls’ tournament will consist of Prescott, SSP, Chisago Lakes, Minn., and Concordia Academy of Roseville, Minn.

Other county hoops’ teams in invitational or tournament action this weekend include the Spring Valley boys’ at the Clayton Invitational. The Cardinals will take on Turtle Lake Friday and Prairie Farm on Saturday. Also on Saturday Elmwood’s girls’ basketball team will go up against Clayton at the annual AAU Holiday Shoot-out in Menomonie at UW-Stout’s Johnson Fieldhouse.

Ellsworth’s boys and girls basketball team will be active as well. They will both play at Lake City in a doubleheader contest Friday starting at 4 p.m.
