Pirates are state bound once again as they down Cumberland, Osceola in regionals; Bombers lose
OSCEOLA -- The Pirate ship sets sail once again for treasure.

Prescott's Pirates are sailing towards another Wisconsin Baseball Association State Tournament after a pair of regional wins this weekend.
Meanwhile, the Bay City Bombers were grounded as they fell in the regional semifinals Friday evening.
The Pirates won on Saturday 9-1 over Cumberland and beat Osceola Sunday at Okey Park 7-0. Osceola had upset the No. 1 seed in the bracket, Chippewa Falls, 5-1 on Friday.
Pitching and hitting were both present and accounted for for the Pirates.
Against Osceola, Prescott's Brian Johnson had a two-run double in the second inning and Nick Thoen hit a three-run homer in the fourth. Brady Randolph hit a solo home run in the seventh. Winning pitcher John Holt threw a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts..
Randolph and Ellsworth's Scott DeWyre, who is playing for the Pirates in the playoffs, smacked back-to-back RBI doubles to put the Pirates ahead 4-1 in the first inning vs. Cumberland. Also driving in runs for Prescott were Nick Johnson with a double, Matt Magnan off a single, Josh Tri on a sacrifice. Chris Terrazas belted a 435-foot triple to the wall in center field. He scored on an error as the Pirates build a 7-1 lead by the fourth inning. Winning pitcher Mike Labarbera took control from there.
Prescott will play Brill in the first round of the tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Ashland at Pufall Field. The other tournament parings are Eau Claire vs. Oulu, Tilden vs. La Crosse and LaCrescent, Minn. vs. Haugen Knights. If Prescott wins Friday they will play the winner of the Eau Claire/Oulu contest Saturday.
In last year's state tournament, Prescott made it all the way to the finals before losing to Chaseburg-Coon Valley.
Prescott is the only St. Croix Valley League team in the state tournament. Menomonie lost to LaCrscent Sunday 4-3, also in Osceola and Hudson fell to Eau Claire 7-0 in Osseo.
Bay City lost to the Haugen Knights on Friday 9-1 in Haugen and River Falls also lost their regional semifinal game in their first-ever playoff bid, 10-5 to Everest on Saturday in Rib Lake.
Haugen's Dan Lindsey picked up the win Friday, while Bay City's Mike Wood took the loss.
"They hit the ball well and we certainly didn't," Bombers manager Monte Strain said to the Red Wing Republican-Eagle. "We had some guys in scoring position, but never got guys across the plate."
It was Bay City's first WBA appearance since 2005 but the Bombers have not won a tourney game since 1999.
Menomonie won their regional semifinal game 14-3 over St. Croix and Hudson downed Bangor to advance on Saturday.
Other tournament scores at Osceola had LaCrscent beating Bayside 6-3.
Over at Haugen it was the Haugen Hornets over Norwalk 8-5 while Brill defeated Proctor, Minn. 8-5 and Ashland won over Augusta 4-2. Brill defeated Ashland 15-7 while the Knights downed the Hornets 10-1.
At Osseo, Chaseburg-Coon Valley beat the host Merchants 3-2, Tilden topped Merrill 13-4, Eau Claire beat Spooner 9-3 and Tilden routed the defending state champions C-CV 13-4 in seven innings to advance to state.
While at Rib Lake, the host Lakers beat Iron City 11-0, Oulu blasted Abbotsford 16-2 and La Crosse topped Whittlesey 12-5 in the semis. Oulu then beat Rib Lake 14-6 and La Crosse beat Everest 15-2 in seven innings to make the state tournament.
