Plum City boys rally too late to beat St. Croix Central
PLUM CITY - Tyler Churchill and Alex Gilles hit back-to-back three-pointers for Plum City in the waning moments of the Blue Devil's Dunn-St. Croix Conference contest with St. Croix Central Friday.
In fact they helped to lead a rally that cut a 13-point Central lead to just four points at 65-61.
But the rally came too late and 65-61 was the final score as they Blue Devils lost their fourth game in a row.
Plum City played poorly at the start of the game to fall behind 8-0 but a strong effort midway through the second quarter led to a 15-4 run and a one-point deficit at halftime 32-31.
Ryan Flynn scored six straight points to lead the Devils' rally. He and Chase Luebker both led the team in scoring with 16 points each while teammate Tyler Churchill had five points. Flynn also had five rebounds and two blocked shots.
But Plum City didn't stay there for long as the Panthers outscored the home team 20-10 in the third quarter and maintained a double-digit lead almost to the end.
St. Croix's Kyle Cress led all scorers with 26 points. The Panthers improve to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the D-SC. Plum City drops to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the league. The Devils play next Thursday at Glenwood City.
