MENOMONIE - Plum City High School football team's regular season winning streak ended at 52 games as Spring Valley defeated the Blue Devils 38-18 Saturday evening in the final game of the Gridiron Classic at UW-Stout's Williams Stadium.

Spring Valley took control of the game in the first quarter scoring on their first two drives with touchdown runs of one and 21 yards by quarterback John Newton and fullback Steve Von Haden.

Valley led 19-0 after a one-yard touchdown run by Kyle Bosshart when Plum City scored its first TD on a 10-yard pass from quarterback Chad Fox to Chase Luebker.

Luebker scored again for the Devils on a 80-yard kick-off return to start the second half to bring PC within two scores at 25-12.

But Valley responded on its next drive when Newton connected with wide receiver Corey Schlosser on a 37-yard touchdown pass to put the Cards' ahead 31-12. Another TD by Von Haden on a short-yardage run put Valley in front 38-12.

PC's last touchdown was a one-yard run by Lawton Radle after Luebker caught a 46-yard pass from Fox despite a blitz. PC got the ball back down three scores with five minutes to go but couldn't rally like they did last year to win over Spring Valley.

The loss is the Blue Devils' first in the regular season since a 2005 loss to Alma.
