Plum City's Rodriguez out for season with broken leg
PLUM CITY - X-rays revealed Monday that Plum City senior running back Gabe Rodriguez broke his leg in two places during Saturday's 49-12 victory at De Soto. He will not play in Saturday's state semifinals -- or the state championship, should the Blue Devils advance.
Rodriguez, who also plays defensive back, entered the De Soto game ranked second on the team in rushing yards (619) and rushing touchdowns (eight) despite missing the season's first two games because of a school code violation. His average of 68.8 rushing yards per game led the Blue Devils.
"It'll hurt us because Burlington (Catholic Central), more than the other teams, rely on speed and he's probably our fastest guy," Plum City coach Troy Ingli said.
Rodriguez finished 11th (51.69 seconds) in the 400-meter dash at the Division 3 state track meet as a junior.
